Beginning November 2: A Survey of The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis
These tongue-in-cheek letters purport to be the correspondence between Screwtape (who is an Undersecretary in the Lowerarchy of Hell) to his nephew Wormwood who is a newly minted demon out on his first assignment. Wormwood has a “patient” and it is his duty and task to win that patient’s soul for his Father Below. These insightful, witty, and theologically salient letters were an instantaneous success when first published in 1942, and have been re-published many times. We will explore them and ask if we are able to see signs that we, too, have been the “patient” of a tempter who is seeking to misguide us.
