Accessibility for those with physical, sensory, or mobility challenges is a priority of our Health & Wholeness Ministry, and an Accessibility Task Force has been created to oversee and guide improvements. The task force has representatives from multiple ministry teams and a goal of providing the best possible access to our facilities and activities for everyone.
Specific accessibility features currently available and planned for the future are outlined below. Please direct any questions, suggestions, or other comments to Rev. Dr. Paul Lang.

Accessibility Services
- Currently Available
- Our sanctuary is wheelchair and walker-accessible through the front doors on our main level.
- Wheelchairs and walkers may be parked in the center aisle next to pews. Wheelchairs and walkers cannot be parked on side aisles without violating fire code regulations.
- Signage indicates pews specifically reserved for wheelchair and walker users.
- Our ushers can provide large print bulletins and hymnals, reading glasses, hearing assistance devices, lumbar support cushions, fidget devices, children’s bulletins, and masks.
- Our worship services can be live-streamed or watched at a later time through our website and app.
- Planned/Under Discussion
- Potential solutions for adding more lighting to the choir loft.
- Adding a hearing aid broadcast system using BlueTooth or T-coil, considering compatibility with our sound system.
- Adding closed captioning to our worship service videos in the future. Current technology cannot generate closed captions for longer videos with specialized vocabularies accurately or affordably, but this will likely improve over time. The Task Force will reassess the state of the technology periodically.
Classes and Events
- Currently Available
- Sturdy chairs with arms for those that require a little extra support while sitting down or standing up. There are five in our Fellowship Hall, eight in our parlor, eight in our library, and five in Room 100.
- Virtual faith formation classes offered via Zoom are available periodically.
- Our Cool Books Club meets monthly via Zoom.
Bathrooms
- Currently Available
- Each of our four large bathrooms - men’s and women’s upstairs and men’s and women’s downstairs - has a handicapped stall with grab bars. The toilets in these stalls are currently traditional standard height.
- The door hinges on all of our bathrooms have been adjusted to close more slowly to allow more time for entry and exit.
- Planned/Under Discussion
- Replacing traditional height toilets with chair height toilets in handicapped stalls (in process November 2025). Others will be updated over time.
- Adding signage to identify the all-gender, single-stall, family bathroom accessed through room 209.
- Adding grab bars to additional bathroom stalls.
Entryways
- Currently Available
- In November 2025 an uneven sidewalk leading to our rear entrance was replaced and a curb-cut between handicapped parking spaces in front was added.
- Two elevators are available indoors to access other parts of the building, one near the Fellowship Hall and one in the children’s wing.
- The locks on all of our outer doors are timed to allow 15 seconds for opening before relocking.
- Fobs which automatically unlock our main front door and rear door are available for church members upon request.
- During office hours, church staff can provide assistance opening doors and carrying items into the church. This can be requested by calling the church office or ringing the doorbell.
- Planned/Under Discussion
- Benches positioned next to the front and rear doors to allow items to be set aside while opening the doors. The kitchen door does not have space available for a bench.
Accessibility Services
- Currently Available
- CPC maintains a Medical Loan Closet with walkers, canes, and other accessibility aids that can be borrowed on a temporary basis upon request. Please contact our Parish Nurse here or call the church office at 919-467-8700 for more information.
